After grocery shopping yesterday, I told Feistygirl that we were going to drive by a house that we may want to buy. She said, "Is it a red house?" I replied, "No, it's a white house." She said, "Like in Washington?"
I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants.

That's so cute! And hooray for you for remembering to make a record and write it down. I wish I had done that more when my kids were smaller!
That's fantastic! I'm so proud of my little niece and her geographical wisdom. I'm confident she'll know more capitals than I do before too much longer. I woke up thinking of her today and of how I need to follow through on my princess-dress making promises.
Thanks for sharing the captivating moment. I will have to start writing down ours because my memory is not as good as they used to be. For instance, yesterday, we went to McMenamins to see ENCHANTED. There were some very funny lines that targeted for the adults and I vowed to post them in with the photos...at the end of the movie, they slipped my mind already!
Hilaree, regarding the California Homeschooling case, a complaint was filed on behalf of the three youngest children in a family of 8 (the oldest is 29), alleging physical and emotional mistreatment by the father. He is the type of dads that would beat their children for misbehaviors or acting out. Upon investigation, the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services discovered that the kids were being homeschooled. An attorney for the two youngest sought a court order requiring them to be enrolled in and actually attend a public or private school. The family was also ordered for family counseling which The Long Family failed to comply. The judge regarded home education lousy, meager, and bad and has it out for homeschoolers anyway did not help. This was THE CASE he was awaiting...It's my understanding the not every judge in the circuit is in agreement with his ruling. I honestly don't think it will stick. Time will tell. Again, it's my liberal opinion from living in SF Bay for over 25 years.
Also, Schwarzenegger has come through, saying that he would fight any ruling requiring homeschooling parents to be credentialed teachers. It is worth noting that in California, public school teachers can teach for years on an "emergency" credential, I understand, without ever actually completing their teacher credentials.
